NEWS RELEASE
Sculptor Linda Whichelow uses
her art in last minute effort to Stop Barbaric Badger Cull & raise the profile of threatened Animals.
Sculptor and Animal Lover Linda Whichelow, exhibiting 23rd to
31h May at the Hortensia Gallery, Chelsea Summer Sculpture Show, is among those desperate to stop the proposed badger cull from taking place. She wasted no time in signing the petition by Queen's Guitarist Dr Brian May CBE to plead with the government
to see reason and act compassionately for defenceless animals for once.
Her Ethereal sculpture installation ‘Come into my life..’ features a magnetic monumental alien totem pole with
an animal figure under the control of an alien. Other Sculpted characters worship the creature and perform acrobatic rituals, but once they reach their goal they are captured and simply become one of the figures at the bottom of the totem pole.
Sister sculpture ‘The Orange Widow’ looks on. She has somehow managed to escape and is no longer under the spell, but has paid a heavy price and remains in the depths of despair!
‘It represents control’
says Linda, and whenever society attacks weaker members, whether animals, children or the elderly in some instances, we have a big problem.’ Although the fantasy sculptures are subconscious, meanings flood in later.’
Fellow
exhibitor Huma Sibtain, also exhibiting likened her to a magician the way the sculptures seem to just happen so quickly from nowhere..
Up to Fifty per cent of sales going to animal Charities
Also
on show is likely to be her Egyptian Cat Totem pole. In Egypt they used to worship cats in 300 BC, so I placed the cat on top, in its rightful place! ‘A gentleman wanted to buy it straight away at the last show at the same gallery, but I couldn’t
bear to part with it. ‘Now that I’ve decided to give up to half the proceeds to the RSPCA I won’t allow myself to hoard my work for this show’ insists Linda!’
Stop the badger cull Now
Linda Whichelow is among those that urge the public to badger the government without delay to stop the planned cull of badgers on the following grounds:
·
Over 70% of the badger population in large areas of the country will be killed, most of them healthy.
.
· The method of free-shooting badgers could cause severe suffering to many thousands of badgers,
who will die an agonising death, for no good reason!
· Independent scientific studies have shown that culling would be of little help in reducing bovine TB, and even suggest that it could make things worse in some areas.
We urge the government to stop the sadistic cull and implement the more sustainable and humane solution of both a vaccination programme for badgers and cattle, along with improved testing and biosecurity.
(The e-petition has now passed the threshold of 100 000 signatures.
The Leader of the House of Commons has written to the Backbench Business Committee, who are responsible for the scheduling of debates on e-petitions, informing
them that the petition has reached 100 000 signatures.
The Backbench Business Committee meets weekly to hear representations from MPs for debates in backbench time. The Committee can consider any subject for debate, including those
raised in e-petitions, but an MP must make the case for their consideration. More information about the Committee is available on its website

A further response from
the Government on this e-petition will be published in due course.)
